Ambitions 2023 - 2025

For the 2023–2025 working period, the EUniverCities Network has defined four key ambitions aimed at fostering long-term, structured, and impactful cooperation between cities and universities.

These ambitions form the strategic foundation of all network activities and are intended to unlock the full potential of university cities in Europe as drivers of innovation, social progress, and sustainable development.

At the heart of these ambitions is the commitment to mutual learning, joint action, and tangible benefits for both urban communities and higher education institutions.

Ambition 1: To foster mutual learning and knowledge exchange between network partners

  • Organize thematic meetings to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices.

  • Actively involve students in all meetings and activities.

  • Support micro-projects, joint initiatives, and hands-on learning opportunities between network partners.

Ambition 2: To ensure active involvement of cities and universities in the network

  • Ensure long-term, committed participation from all partners.

  • Integrate the pillars of research and education into network activities.

  • Promote Triple and Quadruple Helix collaboration (i.e., cooperation among city, university, industry, and civil society).

  • Use the network as a platform for EU-funded or locally funded project collaboration.

Ambition 3: To grow organically as a network

  • Expand the network with engaged and committed new tandem members (city + university).

  • Prioritize membership from countries not yet represented in the network, while allowing additional tandems from already represented countries.

  • Maintain a diverse and balanced membership across Europe.

Ambition 4: To communicate and valorize results of network activities

  • Share best practices, case studies, expert opinions, and project results among members and with external audiences.

  • Strengthen internal and external communication (e.g., through website, social media, and newsletters).

  • Build links with EU institutions (e.g., European Commission, Parliament, Committee of the Regions) and Brussels-based networks.
